Description
A cubist crucifixion on stretched matte canvas, made for slow looking.
The composition keeps an old convention: sun on one side of the cross, moon on the other, the whole sky bearing witness. Below, Mary and the Magdalene hold still while soldiers and horses fracture into hard color around them. An INRI placard tilts in the crowd. Jerusalem sits small on the horizon, indifferent. The palette stays muted and earthen so nothing pulls focus from the figure at the center.
Hung above a console table or worked into a gallery wall, it reads as a modern retablo. The matte surface cuts glare, which keeps the angular brushwork legible from across the room and rewards you when you step close. Lightweight pine frame, hardware already mounted, ready to hang the day the box opens.
