Description
A
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John sit at one long table, quills in hand, each writing the Gospel that bears his name. The ancient symbols gather around them: the winged man at Matthew’s shoulder, the lion behind Mark, the ox at Luke’s side, the eagle spreading its wings over John. A gothic rose window glows in the background. This is the tetramorph of Ezekiel and Revelation rendered in fractured planes and bold color, closer to a modernist canvas than a holy card.
The wide horizontal format was built for the spaces most art doesn’t fit. Above a sofa, over a desk, along a hallway, spanning a headboard. Your eye travels the full length of the table, from Matthew’s chair on the far left to the eagle’s wing breaking the right edge, and the composition keeps giving you things to find: a quill caught mid-stroke, an inkwell holding the light, a lamp burning between Mark and Luke, hands drawn in overlapping angles.
Printed giclée on museum-grade archival paper in a matte finish that drinks the light instead of bouncing it back, so the deep forest greens and burnt ochres read as depth rather than glare. The artist’s signature appears in the lower right of the image. Frame not included.
